What are Clogged Pores on the Face?

When sebum, the skin oil does not reach the skin pores due to dead skin cells, resulting in blocked pores on cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead. Do not mix sebaceous filaments with sebaceous plugs. These are two different things. When you see white strings coming out of pores, it may be sebaceous filament that is naturally present in your skin to keep it moisturized.

Pores clogged with hard sebum need immediate treatment because they are comedones categorized into two groups.

Rosacea Bumps| Clogged pores on face bumps appear as a red background having blackheads, whiteheads, and inflamed pimples. Rosacea is the worst form of acne due to severe inflammation.

Treatment for Clogged Pores

  • Cleanse your skin and do steam facial to soften the sebum plugs from the skin. Then use a gentle exfoliator and apply an egg white mask right after this process to shrink and clean clogged pores on cheeks. This method gives you instant radiant and clean looking skin.
  • Do not over-exfoliate or over-cleanse your skin to get rid of clogged pores immediately. It will cause more inflammation because overdoing the removing dead skin cells and skin oil stimulates the oil glands and produces more sebum in response.
  • If you have closed and open comedones, you can treat them with physical exfoliators like oatmeal scrub, peach scrub, or any readymade scrub available in the market.
  • For inflamed pimples and other types of face bumps, switch to chemical exfoliators. AHA and BHA. AHA is lactic acid-based, and BHA is salicylic acid-based exfoliators. They penetrate deep into the skin and dissolve dead skin cells and skin oil without inflammation. But do not overdo it.
  • Always take off your makeup before doing exercise, sleep, or going outdoor in sunlight.
  • Use egg white, rice water, and banana mask to combat saggy skin and tighten open pores.
  • Always buy non-comedogenic formulas of makeup, cleanser, foundation and sunscreen, moisturizer, and serums.
  • To moisturize your skin use a hyaluronic acid serum instead of an oily cleanser and moisturizer.
  • Use pore minimizing primer before applying makeup.
  • Use clean makeup tools i.e. brushes, sponges, and a beauty blender to avoid bacterial contact.
  • Sleep on a silk pillowcase to avoid clogged pores.
  • Sleep with your hair covered in a cap or a scarf because sebum gets to your facial skin from hair strands and clogged pores on your cheeks.
